Goal:
Promote the sharing and use of best practices in arts education among
artists, teachers, administrators, and community members working throughout
School Arts Grant sites.
Creative
Education Symposium Series
The Creative Education Program team has developed the Creative Education
Symposia: a series of symposia regarding best practices in arts education
that include presentations by arts education researchers, School Arts
Grant sites, and other appropriate models.
The
first Creative Education Symposium took place on November 14, 2001, with
a presentation by James Catterall, Ph.D., addressing the role of research
in the development of arts education policies and programs. James Catterall,
Professor of Education at UCLA, is renowned for his research on the involvement
of the arts in human development. Catteralls analysis of a 10-year
study of over 25,000 students found that, regardless of socio-economic
status, students receiving arts education were more likely to perform
better in school and demonstrate stronger leadership skills.
